4 reales, red.
Hard wove paper until 1858, when a soft, wire wove paper was introduced.
One plate of 60 subjects arranged in 6 columns
and 10 rows. Frameline present. Vertical spacing between stamps
is 6 - 7 mm. There were five deliveries of the 4 reales stamps.
The actual number of printings is unknown. Early printings were
in deep red, going toward pale red, almost pink, for the late
printings.

As with the 8 reales the 4 was split and the pieces used as one
or two reales stamps. Therefore the conclusion must be drawn,
that the actual quantity available is much lower than the
survival rate alone indicates. A guess would put the number
around 2000 copies or less.
