Cuernavaca is located in the state of Morelos. It was the 21th largest postal district, based on the number of stamps used, and 22th by total value of all stamps used. The average cost of the stamps used was 1.31 reales. Cuernavaca had about 16,300 inhabitants in 1858.

Cuernavaca had 6 sub-offices: Jojutla, Puente de Ytzla (Puente de Ixtla), Tasco (Taxco), Tepecoacuilco, Tetecala and Tlalquiltenango.

The Cuernavaca overprint is approximately 18 by 2 mm, without any dots. It's generally unevenly struck. At least one forgery is 18½ by 2mm, with a dot at the base of the last A.

On average, the stamps have normal margins for the issue.

Forgeries from Cuernavaca are uncommon, except for the high values, as usual.
